We offer affordable hand-crafted Burning Man clothing, costumes and playa wear.
As burners, we value functionality so our styles are comfortable, whimsical and designed to perform in the harsh environment of Black Rock City.
We focus on fur pants, fleece animal pants, bloomers, hottie utility kilts and accessories like furry pouches, hats and practice poi. Playa wear is also perfect for Halloween, as year-round party wear and as everyday loungewear.

Production and Orders-

All playa wear is lovingly handmade by us (not in overseas sweatshops), so our production is limited. Many orders are made to order to please order as early as possible. Orders made after July 15th may not be filled and are subject to a “Rush order” fee.

  Hottie Utility Kilt - $149

  This uber-shorty kilt is built for utility, fashion and comfort in the heat of the day. The naughty-school-girl length is perfect for showing off your fancy underpants. Made of sturdy cotton canvas, it has a large pocket with snap closure, a small pocket for a swiss army knife and pens, a hammer loop and several smaller loops for clipping things on. The built-in-belt is adjustable with two metal side-release buckles for a snug fit low on the hips, and every kilt pleat is stitched to stay crip and tidy in the worst of dust storms.   Face Wrap - 3 for $10
  

  This amazingly simple stretch-cotton wrap is the perfect replacement for that old fashioned bandana that constantly slips down. Wraps are made from recycled tee-shirts so they’re stretchy and stay in place, and each one is unique.

  Wraps can be worn as:
  * A neck cooler, just get it wet.
  * A head cover. for bad hair days on the playa.
  * A face mask, for dust storms. Since it’s stretchy, just pull it up over your mouth, nose, mouth, ears and the back of your head and it stays in place.
  * Sleeping mask, to block out the light during day-time naps.

  We have personally tested the wrap on the playa (and gifted them out) so it’s proven to be effective against the elements. Once you use one, you’ll wonder how you got along without it.

About Us :

We are Team Gibson; Judi, Jonathan and seven-year old Dexter (a veteran burner since the age of 16 months). We are a family of longtime burners who value the creativity, integrity and extreme self-reliance philosophies of the Burning Man lifestyle. We practice playa habits in our daily life by minimizing our footprint, conserving and reusing resources, staying on Moop patrol, being generous with friends, neighbors and strangers and staying prepared with emergency supplies. We keep the flame lit year round by participating in M-PYRE events (Regional Monterey Peninsula Burners). We think everyone should know how to sew, so we host free costume sewing workshops for local burners. We plan to volunteer as greeters again this year so we hope to see you at the gate.

2008 Burning Man Camp: Hot Monkey Sox- Sock Monkey
Workshop:
Ever wonder where your socks go? They may be mixing it up at Hot Monkey Sox... where single socks mingle and begin a new life as a playa sock monkey. We wanted to give burners a chance to create something at Black Rock and to recycle something that is abundant in everyday life. Taking the time to sit down to make a monkey, makes us all slow down, spend some quality time with fellow burners, and discover our own creativity. You will find us in Kidsville this year, just look for our 12-foot Sock Monkey and the Hot Monkey Toss (our giant slingshot) where you can shoot a monkey through the faux-ring-of-fire.

Sock Monkey Making Workshops - Daily from 11am to 5pm:
Come create the perfect playa pal! Kids and grups are welcome to come relax in the shade during the heat of the day, to make a sock-monkey (allow 2-3 hours). If you have a short attention span, you can make a quick sock-puppet instead. We provide socks, sewing notions, stuffing and accessories like yarn and buttons.

Sock and Stuffing Contributions: You are welcome to contribute your mismatched socks and old pillows for stuffing. Socks must be clean crew socks without holes, stains or threadbare spots. Socks may be any color and size. Pillows must be fiberfill, not broken up foam of feathers. You may bring your socks the playa, the Prepare for the Playa Events in SF or mail them to us. We will gladly thank you with a Cinder Garden Playa Wear gift.
